TOUGH GUİSE

When "men" is said, the words physical,strong, powerful, tough and indepent etc. are thought. This is learnt from family, community and media. In media, Latin men expressed as boxers, criminals and Asian men showed as martial artists and violent criminals.

Violent is not talked as gender issue even though %90 of guilties are men. Because men are dominant group and they are not examined. We only focus on rare groups. When boys kill boys or girls, it is not discussed. But if girls are criminals, it would be a subject. It is unusual only when women do it.

In media, male's body becomes bigger whereas female body becomes thinner. Also guns become bigger too.

Men shows violence to gay people, because they thought that their image of power, strength, strong will be damaged.

Tough guise think women valid this.It should be shown that it is not true. Also, we should break monopoly of media system

What We Have Learnt

In Eng101 we learnt lots of things. Which one should I state firstly, I couldn't decide..
First of all, we learnt citation with APA style. It is very very useful because we will use it in all of our academic life. When we want to write an article or using an image, we can use it.
I was not informed about flickr since our tutor Sonja have shown it. It is a good way to find images and use some of them which are not coprighted.
The other thing we learnt is blogging! It is very useful for us for practise and for expressing our ideas. And also we learnt how to blog! I did not know how to do it before.
And articles and short stories we had in this lesson. We not only read it but also learnt how to analyze it. Moreover, we learnt the terms that we use for stories.
Presentation is very crucial too. We learnt how to presentate an article, story or film, which points we should mention, how successfull presentation should be. We can use these information in all of our academic life too. It was very beneficial because I did not know it before

PRESENTATİON!

Yesterday we presented an article "Marked Woman" which was written by Deborah Tannen in 1993. It was an interesting article about diferences between men and women, why women are marked whereas men are unmarked.
This practice presentation was beneficial for us before the real one. Because feedbacks were given us by friends and Sonja. Therefore we are informed about positive and negative sides of our presentation.
First of all I will talk about difficculties we had then I will express feedbacks.
Because of our presentation was about an article we had difficulty with finding characters. There weren't exact characters as in stories. The author explained the topic through some women and men. Also she told about an actress and a writer Ralph Fasold, so we talked about them and their opinion in characters section. The other point that we stucked in was symbols. There weren't any symbols in the article.
With looking at feedbacks I can say these: We were so fast there weren't any stop, thesis should have been longer, organisation would have been better, we could have given more information about third wave of feminism and lack of eye contact.

"REALITY TV"

Which of these programs reveals people's real life? Probably, most of people say no. Because they only based on getting so much rating. This is the only thing that producers take care.
These programs are too far from the real life. The people on tv acting like a player. They do weird things to catch people's attention.Let's remember Big Brother on Turkish televisions. They were fighting because of very simple reasons to catch attention.
Let's look at another example. Jade Goody, she was the person who was the competitor in Big Brother. Her life even her death was on the screen.But she had different purpose too. She wanted to have money for her children. Also, the other perspective is she may want to be like before like when she was healthy. She may want to be on the public eye in order to feel happy and confident
